What happens if we look at grief as gift rather than a burden?
We understand now that the practice of shame, privacy, or even secrecy when it comes to the subjects of death, dying, and grief is no longer the only option.
When my father was dying, he wanted to talk about it, but not everyone could stomach that. Some of his friends thought it was best to distract him or talk superficially about the restaurant or the art show they saw. This made him distant.
The act of dying was a very spiritual experience for him (and he had been an atheist his whole life). He experienced things he'd never felt before, and longed to say them out loud.
When friends listened with an open heart, he would cry with joy. They, too, would feel an overwhelming sense of awe, closure, and grace. While it was awkward, since it was rare, they were touched that he told them what they meant to him. It was powerful that he actually said, "Goodbye, and thank you."
There are 4 ways to work with me as a Grief Coach:
1. You are currently dying or would like to prepare for your death.
We focus on the where and the how, if possible; we focus on your family and friends; we explore the feelings and process of dying and all the tangents that it can entail. Also, if you have terror or anxiety about dying.
2. You are grieving someone who has died or is about to.
You do not need to do this alone. We aren't built to grieve alone. This complex process deserves support. I have tools and tips, but mainly I have a listening ear and a huge heart to hold you during this time.
3. Someone important to you is grieving.
This can be a very confusing time for you. What do you do? What do you say? How long does this last? What should you expect? I can help you explore these subjects and offer support when the person you are talking about may not be able to offer the love or support they usually do.
4. You are in a state of grief for the world right now.
The news of wars, starvation, fires, and floods is getting to you. You may feel like you are drowning on some days. You do not need to go through this alone. There are ways to honor your grief AND stay plugged into life.
